IT Engineering - Audiovisual Engineer
Anthropic
About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the Role
As an AV Engineer on Anthropic's IT Engineering team, you'll design and implement the systems that enable world-class collaboration and communication across our global offices. This role is critical as we rapidly expand our physical footprint, with plans for multiple new offices and expansions over the next two years.
You'll be responsible for architecting AV solutions from concept through commissioning, ensuring our conference rooms, event spaces, and collaboration areas provide frictionless experiences that enable our teams to advance AI safety research. You'll help establish standards and systems that scale efficiently while pushing the boundaries of what's possible in workplace collaboration technology.
This is an opportunity to shape how a cutting-edge AI research organization communicates and collaborates, building infrastructure that supports everything from small team meetings to company-wide all-hands broadcasts reaching thousands of remote participants.
Responsibilities:
- Lead AV design, procurement, and programming for new office builds, expansions, and retrofits across our global portfolio
- Create and maintain AV system designs including schematic drawings, line diagrams, and elevation plans
- Program and commission AV systems to meet specific use cases and user requirements
- Execute successful "first day of business" deployments for new offices, ensuring all systems are operational for day-one occupancy
- Attend build coordination meetings with architects, contractors, and workplace teams to drive AV requirements and integration
- Innovate and test emerging AV technologies to optimize productivity and enable premium experiences for existing and upcoming spaces
- Develop automated solutions to improve system reliability and reduce operational overhead
- Partner with Security and IT teams to ensure AV systems meet enterprise security requirements
- Assist with AV operations support including event production and system maintenance as needed
- Create comprehensive documentation for all systems including programming logic, troubleshooting guides, and operational procedures
- Oversee operations globally to ensure seamless AV operations and service delivery standards are consistently met
- Manage relationships with AV integrators and vendors to ensure project success
You may be a good fit if you:
- Have 8+ years of experience designing and implementing AV systems in an enterprise environment
- Are proficient in control system programming utilizing the Q-Sys ecosystem or similar
- Have hands-on experience with video conferencing platforms, particularly Google Meet
- Can read and create AV technical drawings including schematics, line diagrams, and rack elevations
- Understand digital signal processing (DSP) concepts for audio, including acoustic echo cancellation, noise reduction, EQ/dynamics, and automixing
- Are familiar with enterprise video distribution, streaming technologies, and broadcast standards
- Can manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting aggressive timelines
- Collaborate effectively with non-technical stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions
- Have excellent troubleshooting skills and are comfortable diving into complex integrated systems
- Care about creating exceptional user experiences through technology
- Are excited about the opportunity to build scalable AV infrastructure from the ground up
Strong candidates may also have:
- Experience with Logitech video conferencing ecosystem and management platforms
- Certifications such as Q-Sys Level 2, CTS, or CTS-D
- Familiarity building control scripts using Lua within Q-Sys
- Background in broadcast production or live event engineering
- Experience with Netgear network switches running AV over IP systems (QLAN, Dante, SMPTE 2110)
- Familiarity with digital signage platforms (Appspace or similar)
- Understanding of acoustical design principles for conference spaces
- Track record of successful large-scale office technology deployments
- Previous experience performing AV installations
- Background working in high-growth technology companies
- Experience with Google Workspace administration

Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.
How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
