About Anthropic

Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced leader to own and scale Anthropic's accounts receivable and collections function as we continue to grow rapidly. This critical role reports to the Head of Revenue Accounting and has full accountability for building and leading the AR & Collections organization. You'll be instrumental in establishing scalable processes, robust credit policies, and high-performing teams that support our global operations while maintaining healthy cash flow and strong customer relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Own Global AR & Collections Operations: Take full accountability for the complete AR lifecycle from invoice delivery through cash application, ensuring optimal collection performance, accurate cash application, and strong DSO management
  • Ensure Customer Experience Excellence: Drive timely responses to customer billing inquiries, support vendor form completion, and maintain positive customer relationships throughout the collections process
  • Establish Policies & Documentation: Develop comprehensive AR and collections policies, procedures, and documentation to support scalability, compliance, and team enablement; including credit policies, bad debt policies, collection strategies, and dunning processes to minimize credit risk while supporting business growth
  • Build and Lead Team: Establish, scale, and develop the AR & Collections organization; define OKRs, clarify priorities, drive results, and develop team members through mentorship and coaching
  • Drive Operational Excellence: Establish KPIs and performance standards while reducing manual interventions through systematic process improvements and automation
  • Own Relevant Month-End Close Procedures: Ensure timely and accurate execution of AR-related close activities including cash and AR reconciliations, aging analysis, bad debt assessments, and write-off recommendations
  • Deliver Analytics & Insights: Leverage large, complex datasets to develop comprehensive dashboards and reporting that track collections effectiveness, DSO trends, dispute and chargeback rates, and credit risk; present findings and recommendations to senior leadership for data-driven decision-making
  • Build Systems & Automation: Lead full cycle system evaluation and implementation for AR systems (payment processors, collection tools, AR management platforms) from RFP evaluation through go-live in collaboration with Finance Systems and Engineering teams
  • Lead Cross-functional Projects: Drive end-to-end project execution across Finance, Sales, Legal, and Engineering, influencing outcomes and ensuring successful delivery without direct authority
  • Ensure Audit Readiness: Serve as key liaison during financial audits, ensuring compliance and effective controls in the AR and Collections area

You may be a good fit if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 15+ years of progressive AR and collections experience in a combination of high-growth technology companies and public companies
  • 5+ years of leadership experience scaling teams through periods of significant growth; demonstrated success in organizational design, effective hiring, setting team priorities and OKRs, coaching and developing talent, and driving performance
  • Demonstrated ability to own an entire function with full accountability for strategy, execution, and results
  • Deep understanding of AR-related accounting principles, GAAP standards, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and financial operations best practices
  • Highly data-savvy with extensive experience working with large, complex datasets; proficient in Excel, SQL, and data analysis tools for extracting insights, identifying trends, and building analytics and dashboards that drive operational improvements
  • Strong process improvement mindset with proven track record implementing automation initiatives, streamlining operations, and building scalable processes to support significant revenue growth
  • Hands-on experience with AR systems (billing platforms, payment processors, collection tools, ERP) and ability to evaluate and implement new technologies
  • Exceptional project management and stakeholder management skills with proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, influence without authority, and drive end-to-end results across technical and business teams
  • Strong documentation skills with experience developing comprehensive policies, procedures, and process documentation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with proven ability to present complex financial data and recommendations to senior leadership

Strong candidates may also have:

  • Expert knowledge of credit risk management and collections strategies for both B2B and B2C models
  • Experience with consumption-based and subscription billing models
  • Experience serving both consumers and enterprise customers
  • Experience with third-party marketplace sales channels

Location-based hybrid policy:
Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.

Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.

We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.

How we're different

We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.

The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
