Job Description

At Heart Aerospace we develop the ES-30, a regional hybrid-electric airplane with a capacity of 30 passengers, an electric zero-emission range of 200 km and an extended hybrid range of 400 km. Heart is targeting type certification of the ES-30 by the end of the decade.

Our headquarters is based in Gothenburg, Sweden and we are now opening up a R&D hub in Los Angeles, which will focus on the advancement of Heart’s hybrid-electric propulsion system and other key technologies.

We are looking for a Battery Cell Test Engineer to join our growing team in the U.S. Do you have experience with Battery Cell Testing and want to contribute to a more sustainable future?

Your mission

As the Battery Cell Test Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in establishing and advancing our internal testing and characterization program for next-generation battery cells from leading suppliers. Collaborating with a cross-functional team, you will evaluate innovative technologies and suppliers to support the development and commercialization of our proprietary megawatt-hour-scale battery pack—set to become the largest aviation battery pack ever created.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Be a key member of a cross functional team to optimize lithium-ion battery performance and lifetime
  • Execute lithium-ion battery cell tests including electrical, mechanical, and electrochemical testing.
  • Define standard testing procedures, prioritize tests, track and communicate test status to different groups of cell engineers and scientists.
  • Interpret results and propose testing to quantify degradation modes of various battery chemistries
  • Write test scripts and set up program to run tests automatically with different cyclers and chambers.
  • Analyze and present test results to Analyze and present test results to cell engineers and scientists and support cross functional teams with test report if needed.

You will report to Lead Battery Engineer and your our place of work will be at our office located in Los Angeles, in the U.S.

Skills & Requirements

  • Experience with electrochemical processes in various lithium-ion chemistries.
  • Familiar with chemical, electrochemical, and lifetime testing techniques for battery materials
  • Preferred experience in python and SQL database, capable to write scripts
  • Familiar with degradation mechanisms of batteries and battery materials
  • Eagerness to work with others
  • Passion for aircraft and electrification of the aviation industry

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or equivalent experience
